가톨릭 교회 교리서 539 복음사가들은 이 신비한 사건이 지닌 구원적 의미를 가리키고 있다. 첫 아담은 유혹에 넘어졌으나, 예수님께서는 꿋꿋하게 서 계시는 새 아담이시다. 예수님께서는 이스라엘의 소명을 완전하게 수행하신다. 그 옛날 광야에서 사십 년 동안 하느님께 대들었던 사람들과는(시편 95(94),10 참조) 반대로, 그리스도께서는 하느님의 뜻에 완전히 순종하는 ‘하느님의 종’의 모습을 보여 주신다. 예수님께서는 이로써 악마를 이기셨으며, 그의 전리품을 다시 빼앗아 오시고자 “힘센 자를 묶어 놓으셨다.”(마르 3,27 참조) 예수님께서 광야에서 유혹자를 물리치신 것은 당신의 수난, 곧 아버지에 대한 자녀다운 사랑으로 바친 최고의 순종을 통한 승리의 예고이다.

Catechism of the Catholic Church 539 The evangelists indicate the salvific meaning of this mysterious event: Jesus is the new Adam who remained faithful just where the first Adam had given in to temptation. Jesus fulfills Israel's vocation perfectly: in contrast to those who had once provoked God during forty years in the desert, Christ reveals himself as God's Servant, totally obedient to the divine will. In this, Jesus is the devil's conqueror: he "binds the strong man" to take back his plunder.(Cf. Ps 95:10; Mk 3:27) Jesus' victory over the tempter in the desert anticipates victory at the Passion, the supreme act of obedience of his filial love for the Father.

본기도 전능하신 하느님, 해마다 거룩한 성사로 사순 시기를 지내는 저희가 그리스도의 신비를 더욱 깊이 깨달아 회개의 삶으로 그 열매를 맺게 하소서. 성부와 성령과 함께 천주로서 영원히 살아 계시며 다스리시는 성자 우리 주 예수 그리스도를 통하여 비나이다.

Collect Grant, almighty God, through the yearly observances of holy Lent, that we may grow in understanding of the riches hidden in Christ and by worthy conduct pursue their effects. First Reading : Gn 9:8-15 God said to Noah and to his sons with him: "See, I am now establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you: all the birds, and the various tame and wild animals that were with you and came out of the ark. I will establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all bodily creatures be destroyed by the waters of a flood; there shall not be another flood to devastate the earth." God added: "This is the sign that I am giving for all ages to come, of the covenant between me and you and every living creature with you: I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth, and the bow appears in the clouds, I will recall the covenant I have made between me and you and all living beings, so that the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all mortal beings."

제2독서 : 베드로 1서 3,18-22 사랑하는 여러분, 18 그리스도께서는 죄 때문에 단 한 번 고난을 겪으셨습니다. 여러분을 하느님께 이끌어 주시려고, 의로우신 분께서 불의한 자들을 위하여 고난을 겪으신 것입니다. 그러나 육으로는 살해되셨지만 영으로는 다시 생명을 받으셨습니다. 19 그리하여 감옥에 있는 영들에게도 가시어 말씀을 선포하셨습니다. 20 옛날에 노아가 방주를 만들 때 하느님께서는 참고 기다리셨지만 그들은 끝내 순종하지 않았습니다. 몇몇 사람 곧 여덟 명만 방주에 들어가 물로 구원을 받았습니다. 21 이제는 그것이 가리키는 본형인 세례가 여러분을 구원합니다. 세례는 몸의 때를 씻어 내는 일이 아니라, 예수 그리스도의 부활에 힘입어 하느님께 바른 양심을 청하는 일입니다. 22 예수 그리스도께서는 하늘에 오르시어 하느님 오른쪽에 계시는데, 그분께 천사들과 권력들과 권능들이 복종하게 되었습니다.

Second Reading : 1 Pt 3:18-22 Beloved: Christ suffered for sins once, the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous, that he might lead you to God. Put to death in the flesh, he was brought to life in the Spirit. In it he also went to preach to the spirits in prison, who had once been disobedient while God patiently waited in the days of Noah during the building of the ark, in which a few persons, eight in all, were saved through water. This prefigured baptism, which saves you now. It is not a removal of dirt from the body but an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers subject to him.

복음 : 마르코 1,12-15 그때에 12 성령께서는 예수님을 광야로 내보내셨다. 13 예수님께서는 광야에서 사십 일 동안 사탄에게 유혹을 받으셨다. 또한 들짐승들과 함께 지내셨는데 천사들이 그분의 시중을 들었다. 14 요한이 잡힌 뒤에 예수님께서는 갈릴래아에 가시어, 하느님의 복음을 선포하시며 15 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “때가 차서 하느님의 나라가 가까이 왔다. 회개하고 복음을 믿어라.”

Gospel : Mk 1:12-15 The Spirit drove Jesus out into the desert, and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him. After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: "This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel."

예물 기도 주님, 저희가 정성을 다하여 이 제물을 봉헌하오니 이 제사로 거룩한 사순 시기를 경건히 시작하게 하소서. 우리 주 그리스도를 통하여 비나이다.

Prayer over the Offerings Give us the right dispositions, O Lord, we pray, to make these offerings, for with them we celebrate the beginning of this venerable and sacred time. Through Christ our Lord.

감사송 : 사순 감사송 5 : 주님께서 받으신 유혹 거룩하신 아버지, 전능하시고 영원하신 주 하느님, 우리 주 그리스도를 통하여 언제나 어디서나 아버지께 감사함이 참으로 마땅하고 옳은 일이며 저희 도리요 구원의 길이옵니다. 그리스도께서는 사십 일 동안 단식하시며 사순 시기 재계의 기틀을 마련하시고 악마의 유혹을 물리치시어 저희도 악의 세력을 물리치도록 가르치셨나이다. 이제 저희는 새로운 마음으로 파스카 신비를 거행하며 마침내 영원한 파스카 잔치에 들어가리이다. 그러므로 천사들과 성인들의 무리와 함께 저희도 주님을 찬미하며 끝없이 노래하나이다.

Preface : The Temptation of the Lord It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord. By abstaining forty long days from earthly food, he consecrated through his fast the pattern of our Lenten observance and, by overturning all the snares of the ancient serpent, taught us to cast out the leaven of malice, so that, celebrating worthily the Paschal Mystery, we might pass over at last to the eternal paschal feast. And so, with the company of Angels and Saints, we sing the hymn of your praise, as without end we acclaim.

Prayer After Communion Renewed now with heavenly bread, by which faith is nourished, hope increased, and charity strengthened, we pray, O Lord, that we may learn to hunger for Christ, the true and living Bread, and strive to live by every word which proceeds from your mouth. 백성을 위한 기도 주님, 간절히 비오니 주님 백성 위에 풍성한 복을 내려 주시어 고난을 겪으면서도 희망을 키우고 유혹을 받으면서도 덕행을 쌓아 영원한 구원을 얻게 하소서. 우리 주 그리스도를 통하여 비나이다.
