Adhæsi veris doctrinis christianorum
Comprehénsi sancti, addúcti sunt ad Romæ præféctum nómine Rústicum. Quibus ante tribúnal constitútis, Rústicus præféctus dixit ad Iustínum: «Ante ómnia fidem diis habe et obséquere imperatóribus». Iustínus dixit: «Accusári aut deprehéndi nequit quod obtemperémus præcéptis salvatóris nostri Iesu Christi».
Rústicus dixit: «Quales doctrínas profitéris?». Iustínus dixit: «Omnes quidem doctrínas conátus sum díscere, at adhǽsi veris doctrínis christianórum, quamvis non probéntur iis qui detinéntur erróribus».
Rústicus præféctus dixit: «Illǽne tibi probántur doctrínæ, misérrime?». Iustínus dixit: «Ita, quandóquidem cum dógmate recto eas sequor».
Rústicus præféctus dixit: «Quale est dogma?». Iustínus dixit: «Quod Deum christianórum cólimus, quem existimámus unum ab inítio creatórem et opíficem totíus creatiónis, visibílium et invisibílium, et Dóminum Iesum Christum Dei Fílium, qui étiam prænuntiátus est a prophétis ventúrus géneri hóminum præco salútis et præcéptor egregiórum discipulórum. Atque ego, homo cum sim, minúta puto me dícere præ eius infiníta Deitáte, prophéticam vim quandam agnóscens, quóniam prænuntiátus hic fuit, quem modo dixi Dei Fílium esse. Scio enim supérne vaticinátos esse prophétas de huius advéntu ad hómines».
Rústicus dixit: «Nonne ergo christiánus es?». Iustínus dixit: «Ita, christiánus sum».
Præféctus dixit ad Iustínum: «Audi, qui doctus díceris et putas veras scire doctrínas; si flagéllis cæsus cápite plectáris, persuasúmne habes te ascensúrum esse in cælum?». Iustínus dixit: «Spero me habitúrum eius domum, si hæc sustinúero; scio enim ómnibus qui recte víxerint conservári divínam grátiam usque ad consummatiónem totíus mundi».
Rústicus præféctus dixit: «Tu ígitur suspicáris futúrum ut in cælos ascéndas, prǽmia áliqua idónea acceptúrus?». Iustínus dixit: «Non súspicor, sed apte scio ac certíssimum hábeo».
Rústicus præféctus dixit: «Céterum ad rem veniámus propósitam, quæ necessária est atque urget. Conveniéntes ergo unanímiter sacrificáte diis». Iustínus dixit: «Nemo recte séntiens a pietáte in impietátem delábitur».
Rústicus præféctus dixit: «Nisi imperáta fácitis cruciabímini immisericórditer». Iustínus dixit: «In votis habémus propter Dóminum nostrum Iesum Christum cruciáti salvári, quia hoc nobis salútem et fidúciam præbébit ante terribílius et universále tribúnal Dómini nostri et Salvatóris».
Itidem étiam réliqui mártyres dixérunt: «Fac quod vis; nos enim christiáni sumus et idólis non sacrificámus».
Rústicus præféctus senténtiam pronuntiávit dicens: «Qui diis sacrificáre et imperatóris iusso obœdíre noluérunt, flagéllis cæsi abducántur, capitálem luitúri pœnam secúndum legum normam». Sancti mártyres glorificántes Deum, egréssi in consuétum locum, cápite obtruncáti sunt et consummárunt martýrium in Salvatóris confessióne.

성도들은 체포된 후 루스티쿠스라는 로마 총독 앞으로 끌려갔다. 법정으로 끌려 나아가자 총독 루스티쿠스는 유스티노에게 말했다. “무엇보다 먼저 제신들을 믿고 제왕들에게 순종하라.” 그러나 유스티노는 “우리가 우리 구세주 예수 그리스도의 계명에 순종한다고 해서 그것이 고발당하고 억압받을 이유가 되지 못합니다.”라고 대답했다. “너는 무슨 교설을 신봉하느냐?” 하고 루스티쿠스가 물었다. 유스티노는 대답했다. “저는 온갖 교설을 알아보려고 노력한 후 마침내 그리스도인들의 참된 가르침을 받아 들였습니다. 비록 오류에 빠져 있는 사람들이 그것을 받아들이지 않는다 해도.” 그러자 총독은 “이 불쌍한 녀석아, 그게 바로 네가 신봉하고 있는 교설이란 말이냐?” 하고 말했다. 이에 대해 유스티노는 이렇게 대답했다. “예, 그렇습니다. 저는 그것이 올바른 가르침이기에 따르고 있습니다.”
총독은 물었다. “그건 무슨 가르침인가?” 유스티노는 대답했다. “우리는 그리스도인의 하느님, 태초에 보이는 것과 보이지 않는 만물을 창조하시고 조성하신 유일하신 하느님을 믿고, 구원의 전달자와 탁월한 가르침의 스승으로서 사람들 가운데 오시리라고 예언자들이 예언한 하느님의 아들 주 예수 그리스도를 믿습니다. 저는 이 영원하신 하느님에 대해 올바로 말할 자격이 없는 일개 인간입니다. 그런데 제가 미리 말씀 드린 이분이 하느님의 아들이시라는 것이 예언되었기 때문에 하느님에 대해 말할 때 예언의 힘을 필요로 함을 알고 있고 또 그분께서 사람들 가운데 내림하시리라고 예언한 예언자들은 그 예언의 힘을 하늘에서 받았다는 것을 알고 있습니다.” 그러자 루스티쿠스는 “그렇다면 너는 그리스도인이란 말이냐?” 하고 물었다. 유스티노는 “예, 저는 그리스도인입니다.” 하고 대답했다.
총독은 유스티노에게 말했다. “너는 스스로 학식 있고 참된 교설을 아는 사람이라고 생각하고 있다. 자, 내 말을 듣거라. 내가 너를 매로 치고 목을 자른다면 너는 천국에 올라가리라고 믿느냐?” 유스티노는 대답했다. “제가 만일 귀하가 말하는 것을 견디어 낸다면 주님의 집에서 살게 되리라 기대하고 있습니다. 저는 선한 삶을 살아간 모든 사람들이 마지막 날이 되면 천상 상급을 받으리라 믿습니다.” 총독은 말했다. “그래서 네가 천국에 올라갈 때 어떤 합당한 상급을 받으리라고 상상한단 말이냐?” 유스티노는 서슴없이 대답했다. “그건 상상하는 것이 아닙니다. 저는 알고 있고 또 확신합니다.” 총독은 말했다. “이제 쓸데없는 이야기는 그만두고 핵심으로 돌아가자. 우리가 해야 할 시급한 일은 이것이다. 너희는 함께 앞에 나와 제신들에게 제사를 지내라.” 그러나 유스티노는 단호하게 말했다. “제정신을 지닌 사람이라면 아무도 참된 신앙을 포기하고 거짓 신앙에 넘어가지 않을 것입니다.”
총독은 고집했다. “내가 말한 대로 하지 않는다면 너는 무자비하게 고문당할 것이다.” 유스티노는 대답했다. “우리 주 예수 그리스도를 위해서 고문당함으로 구원에 이르는 것 - 그것이 우리 소원입니다. 이 고통은 우리에게 구원을 얻어 주고 우리가 구세주이신 주님의 준엄하고 공정한 심판대 앞에 나아갈 때 자신감을 줄 것입니다.” 모든 순교자들도 똑같이 말했다. “귀하가 원하는 대로 하십시오. 우리는 그리스도인입니다. 우상에게 제사 지내지 않겠습니다.” 총독은 마침내 판결을 내렸다. “이자들은 제신들께 제사 지내기를 거부하고 또 황제의 명령에 복종하기를 거부했다. 이자들을 끌어내어 매질을 하고 법에 따라 처형하라.” 거룩한 순교자들은 하느님을 찬미하면서 늘 형을 집행하던 형장으로 나아갔다. 그 곳에서 참수형을 당함으로써 구세주께 대한 신앙을 고백하면서 순교자의 월계관을 얻었다.
From the Acts of the martyrdom of Saint Justin and his companion saints
I have accepted the true doctrines of the Christians
The saints were seized and brought before the prefect of Rome, whose name was Rusticus. As they stood before the judgement seat, Rusticus the prefect said to Justin: “Above all, have faith in the gods and obey the emperors.” Justin said: “We cannot be accused or condemned for obeying the commands of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.”
Rusticus said: “What system of teaching do you profess?” Justin said: “I have tried to learn about every system, but I have accepted the true doctrines of the Christians, though these are not approved by those who are held fast by error.”
The prefect Rusticus said: “Are those doctrines approved by you, wretch that you are?” Justin said: “Yes, for I follow them with their correct teaching.”
The prefect Rusticus said: “What sort of teaching is that?” Justin said: “Worship the God of the Christians. We hold him to be from the beginning the one creator and maker of the whole creation, of things seen and things unseen. We worship also the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He was foretold by the prophets as the future herald of salvation for the human race and the teacher of distinguished disciples. For myself, since I am a human being, I consider that what I say is insignificant in comparison with his infinite godhead. I acknowledge the existence of a prophetic power, for the one I have just spoken of as the Son of God was the subject of prophecy. I know that the prophets were inspired from above when they spoke of his coming among men.”
Rusticus said: “You are a Christian, then?” Justin said: “Yes, I am a Christian.”
The prefect said to Justin: “You are called a learned man and think that you know what is true teaching. Listen: if you were scourged and beheaded, are you convinced that you would go up to heaven?” Justin said: “I hope that I shall enter God’s house if I suffer that way. For I know that God’s favour is stored up until the end of the whole world for all who have lived good lives.”
The prefect Rusticus said: “Do you have an idea that you will go up to heaven to receive some suitable rewards?” Justin said: “It is not an idea that I have; it is something I know well and hold to be most certain.”
The prefect Rusticus said: “Now let us come to the point at issue, which is necessary and urgent. Gather round then and with one accord offer sacrifice to the gods.” Justin said: “No one who is right thinking stoops from true worship to false worship.”
The prefect Rusticus said: “If you do not do as you are commanded you will be tortured without mercy.” Justin said: “We hope to suffer torment for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ, and so be saved. For this will bring us salvation and confidence as we stand before the more terrible and universal judgement-seat of our Lord and Saviour.”
In the same way the other martyrs also said: “Do what you will. We are Christians; we do not offer sacrifice to idols.”
The prefect Rusticus pronounced sentence, saying: “Let those who have refused to sacrifice to the gods and to obey the command of the emperor be scourged and led away to suffer capital punishment according to the ruling of the laws.” Glorifying God, the holy martyrs went out to the accustomed place. They were beheaded, and so fulfilled their witness of martyrdom in confessing their faith in their Saviour.

聖人們被捕，並且被押解到羅馬總督羅斯蒂那裏。當他們出現在法庭前時，羅斯蒂對猶思定說：「首先你要朝拜諸位神明，並服從皇帝。」猶思定回答說：「我們服從我們的救世主耶穌基督的命令，人們不能為此而控告我們或處罰我們。」
總督羅斯蒂說：「你信仰什麼教義？」猷定說：「我曾努力學習一切的道理，可是我却信仰了基督徒的真實道理，雖然這些道理使那些被囚禁於錯誤中的人們所不喜愛。」
總督說：「你這可憐蟲！你喜愛這些道理嗎？」猶思定說：「是的，我遵循這些，便找到了真信仰。」
總督說：「這種信仰是什麼？」猶思定說：「我們恭敬基督徒的天主；我們信祂從開始就是創造整個有形和無形宇宙的唯一造物主；我們也恭敬天主之子，耶穌基督，祂是先知們所預言要來為人類宣報救恩的使者，和有益的知識的導師。我只是一個凡人，我想我的話與祂無限的天主性相比，實在無足輕重；但是我承認預言的能力，先知們事先預言過，如同我剛才所說的：祂是天主之子。所以你要知道，先知們由於上天的啟示曾經預言祂要來到人間。」
總督羅斯蒂又說：「那麼，你真是基督徒嗎？」猶思定回答說：「是的，我是基督徒。」
羅斯蒂說：「你聽著！人們說你是有學問的人，你也想像你擁有真實的道理。如果你受鞭笞，然後被斬首，你相信你將升天嗎？」猶思定回答說：「如果我忍受這些，我就可希望我將在天上有我的住所。我知道凡善生的人，天主的酬報要一直為他們保留到宇宙毀滅時。」
總督說：「那麼你真的想像你將升天堂，去領受美好的賞報嗎？」猶思定說：「我不只是想像，而是確切知道，而且深信無疑。」
羅斯蒂總督又說：「讓我們言歸正傳，這是當務之急，刻不容緩的。所以，你們大家都要同意，一起向諸神獻祭！」猶思定回答說：「有正確思想的人，誰也不會揚棄對真主的敬禮，而去事奉邪神。」
總督又說：「如果你們不遵命獻祭，就要受酷刑。」猶思定回答說：「我們所渴望的，正是為我們的主耶穌基督受苦而得救。因為這一切會帶給我們救恩和信心，使我們能面對比這更可怖的法庭，在那裏我們的主救主將審判整個人類。」
其他的殉道烈士們也同樣宣稱：「你要作什麼，悉聽尊便。我們都是基督徒，絕不向偶像獻祭！」
於是羅斯蒂總督宣判說：「凡不願服從皇帝命令而向諸神祭祀者，依法將被帶去受鞭笞，並處以斬首之刑。」烈士們聽到判刑後，一面頌揚天主，一面走向刑場。頭一落地，便這樣因承認我們的救世主而完成了他們的殉道壯舉。
