Unitas Ecclesiæ linguis omnibus loquitur
Omnibus linguis locúti sunt. Sic quippe tunc Deo plácuit Sancti Spíritus significáre præséntiam, ut, qui eum accepísset, ómnibus linguis loquerétur. Intellegéndum est enim, fratres caríssimi, hunc esse Spíritum Sanctum, quo cáritas diffúnditur in córdibus nostris.
Et quóniam cáritas Ecclésiam Dei congregatúra fúerat toto orbe terrárum, quod tunc étiam unus homo póterat, Spíritum Sanctum accípiens, linguis ómnibus loqui, nunc, Sancto Spíritu congregáta, ipsa únitas Ecclésiæ linguis ómnibus lóquitur.
Proínde si quisquam díxerit alícui nostrum: «Accepísti Spíritum Sanctum, quare non linguis ómnibus lóqueris?» respondére debet: «Loquor sane ómnibus linguis: quia in eo sum Christi córpore, hoc est in Ecclésia, quæ lóquitur ómnibus linguis. Quid enim áliud tunc Deus significávit per Sancti Spíritus præséntiam, nisi Ecclésiam suam ómnibus linguis locutúram?».
Implétum est ítaque quod promíserat Dóminus: Nemo mittit vinum novum in utres véteres, sed vinum novum in utres novos mittunt, et utráque servabúntur.
Mérito ergo, cum audiréntur linguis ómnibus loqui, nonnúlli dicébant: Hi musto pleni sunt. Iam enim facti fúerant utres novi, sanctitátis grátia renováti, ut, vino novo, hoc est, Spíritu Sancto repléti, ómnibus linguis loquéndo fervérent, Ecclésiam cathólicam per ómnium géntium linguas futúram evidentíssimo illo miráculo præsignárent.
Hunc ítaque diem sic celebráte, tamquam membra unitátis córporis Christi. Non enim frustra celebrátis, si hoc estis quod celebrátis: illi Ecclésiæ cohæréntes, quam Dóminus, implens Spíritu Sancto, toto mundo crescénte agnóscit suam, et agnóscitur a sua. Tamquam sponsus sponsam non pérdidit própriam, nemo ei suppónit aliénam.
Vobis enim ómnibus géntibus constitútis, hoc est Ecclésiæ Christi, membris Christi, córpori Christi, sponsæ Christi, Apóstolus dicit: Sufferéntes ínvicem in dilectióne, studéntes ínvicem serváre unitátem Spíritus in vínculo pacis.
Vidéte quia ubi præcépit ut sustineámus ínvicem, ibi pósuit dilectiónem; ubi spem nominávit unitátis, ibi osténdit vínculum pacis. Hæc est domus Dei, de vivis lapídibus fabricáta, in qua talem patremfamílias deléctet habitáre, cuius óculos ruína divisiónis non debet offéndere.

사랑은 하느님의 교회를 온 세상으로부터 한데 모아야 했습니다. 그래서 그때 각 사람이 성령을 받아 여러 가지 외국어로 말할 수 있었고 이제는 성령으로 말미암아 모인 일치된 교회가 여러 가지 외국어로 말합니다. 그래서 누가 우리 중 하나에게 “너는 성령을 받았으면서 왜 외국어로 말하지 않느냐?”고 물어 본다면 우리는 이렇게 대답해야 합니다. “나는 분명히 여러 가지 외국어로 말합니다. 나는 여러 가지 외국어로 말하는 그리스도의 몸인 교회 안에 있습니다. 하느님께서 성령의 현존을 통하여 우리에게 보여 주시고자 한 것은 교회가 여러 가지 외국어로 말하리라는 것이 아니겠습니까?”

A reading from a 6th-century African author
The Church in its unity speaks in the language of every nation
The disciples spoke in the language of every nation. At Pentecost God chose this means to indicate the presence of the Holy Spirit: whoever had received the Spirit spoke in every kind of tongue. We must realise, dear brothers, that this is the same Holy Spirit by whom love is poured out in our hearts. It was love that was to bring the Church of God together all over the world. And as individual men who received the Holy Spirit, speaks in the language of every people.
Therefore if somebody should say to one of us, “You have received the Holy Spirit, why do you not speak in tongues?” his reply should be, “I do indeed speak in the tongues of all men, because I belong to the body of Christ, that is, the Church, and she speaks all languages. What else did the presence of the Holy Spirit indicate at Pentecost, except that God’s Church was to speak in the language of every people?”
This way is the way in which the Lord’s promise was fulfilled: No one puts new wine into old wineskins. New wine is put into fresh skins, and so both are preserved. So when the disciples were heard speaking in all kinds of languages, some people were not far wrong in saying: They have been drinking too much new wine. The truth is that the disciples had now become fresh wineskins, renewed and made holy by grace. The new wine of the Holy Spirit filled them, so that their fervour brimmed over and they spoke in manifold tongues. By this spectacular miracle they became a sign of the Catholic Church, which embraces the language of every nation.
Keep this feast, then, as members of the one body of Christ. It will be no empty festival for you if you really become what you are celebrating. For you are the members of that Church which the Lord acknowledges as his own, being himself acknowledged by her, that same Church which he fills with the Holy Spirit as she spreads throughout the world. He is like a bridegroom who never loses sight of his own bride; no one could ever deceive him by substituting some other woman.
To you men of all nations, then who make up the Church of Christ, you the members of Christ, you, the body of Christ, you, the bride of Christ – to all of you the Apostle addresses these words: Bear with one another in love; do all you can to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Notice that when Paul urges us to bear with one another, he bases his argument on love, and when he speaks of our hope of unity, he emphasises the bond of peace. This Church is the house of God. It is his delight to dwell here. Take care, then, that he never has the sorrow of seeing it undermined by schism and collapsing in ruins.

因此，你們要以基督唯一身體之肢體的身分來慶祝這日子。如果你們照你們所慶祝的去生活，你們的慶祝才不致虛度：因為你們都與這教會聯結在一起，這教會是主以聖神所充滿的，祂承認這是祂的教會，因為它廣傳到普世；祂本身也被教會承認。祂如同一位新郎，沒有失去過新娘；沒有陌生人能假冒新娘來欺騙祂。
你們被建立在萬國中，所以你們是基督的教會，基督的肢體，基督的身體，基督的淨配，保祿宗徒向你們說：「你們在愛德中要彼此擔待，務要努力以和平的聯繫，保持精神的合一。」
