가톨릭 교회 교리서 719 요한은 “예언자보다 더 중요한 인물”이다.(루카 7,26 참조) 성령께서는 그 안에서 “예언자들을 통하여 말씀하시는 일을” 완수하신다. 요한은 엘리야로부터 시작된 예언자들의 시대를 마감한다.(마태 11,13-14 참조) 그는 이스라엘의 위로가 임박했음을 알린다. 그는 오시는 위로자의 “소리”이다.(요한 1,23; 이사 40,1-3 참조) 진리의 성령께서 그러하시듯이 “그는 그 빛을 증언하러 왔다”(요한 1,7).(요한 15,26; 5,33 참조) 요한이 보기에, 성령께서는 “예언자들이 탐구하고 연구하던 것”과 “천사들도 보기를 갈망하던 것”을 완성하신다.(1베드 1,10-12 참조) “‘성령이 내려와 어떤 분 위에 머무르는 것을 네가 볼 터인데, 바로 그분이 성령으로 세례를 주시는 분이다.’ 과연 나는 보았다. 그래서 저분이 하느님의 아드님이시라고 내가 증언하였다.……보라, 하느님의 어린양이시다”(요한 1,33-36).

Catechism of the Catholic Church 719 John the Baptist is "more than a prophet."(Lk 7:26) In him, the Holy Spirit concludes his speaking through the prophets. John completes the cycle of prophets begun by Elijah.(Cf. Mt 11:13-14) He proclaims the imminence of the consolation of Israel; he is the "voice" of the Consoler who is coming.(Jn 1:23; cf. Isa 40:1-3) As the Spirit of truth will also do, John "came to bear witness to the light."(Jn 1:7; cf. Jn 15:26; 5:35) In John's sight, the Spirit thus brings to completion the careful search of the prophets and fulfills the longing of the angels.(Cf. 1 Pet 1:10-12) "He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God. . . . Behold, the Lamb of God."(Jn 1:33-36)

본기도 전능하시고 자비로우신 하느님, 저희가 세상일에 얽매이지 않고 기꺼이 성자를 맞이하여 천상의 지혜로 성자와 하나 되게 하소서. 성자께서는 성부와 성령과 함께 천주로서 영원히 살아 계시며 다스리시나이다.

Collect Almighty and merciful God, may no earthly undertaking hinder those who set out in haste to meet your Son, but may our learning of heavenly wisdom gain us admittance to his company. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.

First Reading : IS 40:1-5, 9-11 Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her service is at an end, her guilt is expiated; indeed, she has received from the hand of the LORD double for all her sins. A voice cries out: In the desert prepare the way of the LORD! Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God! Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill shall be made low; the rugged land shall be made a plain, the rough country, a broad valley. Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken. Go up on to a high mountain, Zion, herald of glad tidings; cry out at the top of your voice, Jerusalem, herald of good news! Fear not to cry out and say to the cities of Judah: Here is your God! Second Reading : 2 PT 3:8-14 Do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day. The Lord does not delay his promise, as some regard “delay,” but he is patient with you, not wishing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a mighty roar and the elements will be dissolved by fire, and the earth and everything done on it will be found out. Since everything is to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be, conducting yourselves in holiness and devotion, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved in flames and the elements melted by fire. But according to his promise we await new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Therefore, beloved, since you await these things, be eager to be found without spot or blemish before him, at peace.

Gospel : MK 1:1-8 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way. A voice of one crying out in the desert: “Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.” John the Baptist appeared in the desert proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. People of the whole Judean countryside and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins. John was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. He fed on locusts and wild honey. And this is what he proclaimed: “One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

예물 기도 주님, 비천한 저희가 드리는 기도와 제물을 굽어보시어 아무런 공덕이 없는 저희를 너그러이 보호하시며 도와주소서. 우리 주 그리스도를 통하여 비나이다.

Prayer over the Offerings Be pleased, O Lord, with our humble prayers and offerings, and, since we have no merits to plead our cause, come, we pray, to our rescue with the protection of your mercy. Through Christ our Lord.

대림 감사송 1 : 그리스도의 두 차례 오심 거룩하신 아버지, 전능하시고 영원하신 주 하느님, 우리 주 그리스도를 통하여 언제나 어디서나 아버지께 감사함이 참으로 마땅하고 옳은 일이며 저희 도리요 구원의 길이옵니다. 그리스도께서 비천한 인간으로 처음 오실 때에는 구약에 마련된 임무를 완수하시고 저희에게 영원한 구원의 길을 열어 주셨나이다. 그리고 빛나는 영광 중에 다시 오실 때에는 저희에게 반드시 상급을 주실 것이니 저희는 지금 깨어 그 약속을 기다리고 있나이다. 그러므로 천사와 대천사와 좌품 주품 천사와 하늘의 모든 군대와 함께 저희도 주님의 영광을 찬미하며 끝없이 노래하나이다.
