Ex Opéribus sancti Bonaventúræ epíscopi

Apud te est fons vitæ
Consídera et tu, homo redémpte, quis, quantus et qualis est hic, qui pro te pendet in cruce, cuius mors vivíficat mórtuos, cuiúsque tránsitum et cælum luget et terra, et lápides duri scindúntur.
Porro ut de látere Christi dormiéntis in cruce formarétur Ecclésia, et Scriptúra implerétur quæ dicit: Vidébunt in quem transfixérunt, divína est ordinatióne indúltum, ut unus mílitum láncea latus sacrum illud aperiéndo perfóderet, quátenus sánguine cum aqua manánte, prétium effunderétur nostræ salútis, quod a fonte, scílicet cordis arcáno, profúsum, vim daret sacraméntis Ecclésiæ ad vitam grátiæ conferéndam, essétque iam in Christo vivéntibus póculum fontis vivi saliéntis in vitam ætérnam.
Surge ígitur, amíca Christi, esto sicut colúmba nidíficans in summo ore foráminis, ibi ut passer invéniens domum, vigiláre non cesses, ibi tamquam turtur casti amóris pullos abscónde, ibi os appóne, ut háurias aquas de fóntibus Salvatóris. Hic enim est fons egrédiens de médio paradísi, qui in quáttuor divísus cápita et in corda devóta diffúsus, fecúndat et írrigat univérsam terram.
Ad hunc fontem vitæ et lúminis curre, cum desidério vivo, quæcúmque es, ánima Deo devóta, et cordis íntima vi ad eum clama: «O ineffábilis decor Dei excélsi et puríssima cláritas lucis ætérnæ, vita omnem vitam vivíficans, lux omne lumen illúminans et consérvans in splendóre perpétuo multifórmia lúmina fulgéntia, ante thronum divinitátis tuæ a primǽvo dilúculo!
O ætérnum et inaccessíbile, clarum et dulce proflúvium fontis abscónditi ab óculis ómnium mortálium, cuius profúndum sine fundo, cuius altum sine término, cuius amplitúdo incircumscriptíbilis, et cuius púritas imperturbábilis.
Ex quo flúvius procédit, qui lætíficat civitátem Dei, ut in voce exsultatiónis et confessiónis decantémus tibi cántica laudis, experiéntia teste probántes, quóniam apud te est fons vitæ, et in lúmine tuo vidébimus lumen».

당신께 생명의 샘이 있나이다
구원된 사람아. 너를 위해 십자가에 매달리시는 분이 누구이시고 얼마나 위대하시며 어떤 분이신지를 생각하여 보라. 그분의 죽음은 죽은 자에게 생명을 주시고, 그분의 돌아가심에 하늘과 땅은 애곡하며 굳은 바위도 산산히 부서지나니.
십자가 위에서 잠드신 그리스도의 늑방에서 교회가 생겨나고, “그들은 자기들이 찌른 사람을 보게 될 것이다.”라는 성경 말씀이 성취되도록 하느님의 성의는 한 병사가 창으로 그 거룩한 늑방을 헤쳐 열어 우리 구원의 대가인 피와 물이 흘러 나오도록 했도다. 그분 성심의 은밀한 샘에서 흘러 나온 이 피와 물은 교회의 성사에 은총의 생명을 베풀 힘을 주었고, 이미 그리스도 안에 사는 이들에게는 “샘물처럼 솟아 올라 영원히 살게 하는” 생명수가 되었도다.
그리스도의 벗이여, 일어나 “동굴 입구의 벼랑에 둥지를 둔 비둘기처럼 되어라.” “자기 집에 들어 있는 참새처럼” 그 안에 끊임없이 깨어 있고, 정결한 사랑의 비둘기처럼 새끼들을 거기에 숨기며, “구원의 샘에서 물을 마시기 위해 거기에 네 입술을 대어라.” “에덴 한가운데서 흘러 나와 네 줄기로 갈라져” 사랑으로 타오르는 사람들의 마음에 흘러 퍼져 온 땅을 적시고 열매 맺게 하는 강물이 바로 여기에 있다.
하느님을 사랑하는 영혼아, 네가 누구이든 간에 열렬한 갈망으로 생명과 빛의 이 샘으로 달려가 마음의 깊은 데서 나오는 힘으로 그분께 외쳐라. “오, 지극히 높으신 하느님의 표현할 수 없는 아름다움이여! 오, 영원한 빛의 순수한 광채여! 당신은 살아 있는 모든 것에 생명을 주시는 생명이시고, 온갖 빛을 비추어 주시고 동녘이 처음으로 밝아 오기 시작하던 때부터 당신 신성의 옥좌 앞에서 빛나는 무수한 별들을 꺼지지 않는 광휘 속에 보존하는 빛이십니다!
모든 인간의 시야에서 감추인 샘에서 흘러 나오는 영원하고 다다를 수 없으며, 맑고, 달콤함 물이여! 그 깊이는 헤아릴 수 없고 그 높이는 잴 수 없으며 그 폭은 광대하고 그 해맑음은 때 묻음을 모릅니다.”
그 샘에서 “하느님의 도성을 즐겁게 하는” 강물이 흘러 나와 “환희와 찬미 소리 드높던 그 가운데서” 우리가 찬미의 노래를 당신께 부르고 “생명의 샘이 진정 당신께 있고 당신 빛으로 빛을 보게 됨을” 체험으로 확증하게 되는도다.
A reading from the works of St Bonaventure
With you is the source of life
You who have been redeemed, consider who it is who hangs on the cross for you, whose death gives life to the dead, whose passing is mourned by heaven and earth, while even the hard stones are split. Consider how great he is; consider what he is.
In order that the Church might be formed from the side of Christ as he slept on the cross, in order that the word of scripture might be fulfilled – ‘They shall look on him whom they have pierced’ – God’s providence decreed that one of the soldiers should open his sacred side with a spear, so that blood with water might flow out to pay the price of our salvation. This blood, which flowed from its source in the secret recesses of his heart, gave the sacraments of the Church power to confer the life of grace, and for those who already live in Christ was a draught of living water welling up to eternal life.
Arise, then, bride of Christ, be like the dove that nests in the rock-face at the mouth of a cavern, and there, like a sparrow which finds its home, do not cease to keep vigil; there, like a turtle-dove, hide the fledglings of your chaste love; place your lips there to draw water from the wells of your Saviour. For this is the spring flowing from the middle of paradise; it divides and becomes four rivers, then spreads through all devout hearts, and waters the whole world and makes it fruitful.
O soul devoted to God, whoever you may be, run to this source of life and light with eager longing. And with the power of your inmost heart cry out to him: ‘O indescribable beauty of God most high! O pure radiance of everlasting light! O life that gives life to all life! O light that illuminates every light, and preserves in its undying splendour the myriad flames that have shone before the throne of your godhead from the dawn of time!
‘O water eternal and inaccessible, clear and sweet, flowing from the spring that is hidden from the eyes of all mortal men; the spring whose depths cannot be plumbed, whose height cannot be measured, whose shores cannot be charted, whose purity cannot be muddied.’
From this source flows the river which makes glad the city of God, so that with glad shouts and songs of thanksgiving we sing to you our hymns of praise, and by experience prove that with you is the fountain of life; and in your light we shall see light.

在祢那裡有生命之泉
蒙救贖的人哪！你也要想想：為你被懸在十字架上的那一位，多麼偉大，是怎樣的身份！祂的死使死者復生，祂的逝世，天地同悲，頑石裂開。
為了使教會，從死在十字架上的基督的肋旁內誕生，並為使聖經所載「他們要瞻望他們所刺透的」那預言，得以應驗，依照天主神妙的措施，有一士兵拿了長槍，刺開了基督的神聖肋旁，有血水併流，這就是我們的贖價。從這泉源──耶穌聖心最深處所流出的活水，賦予教會的聖事產生聖寵生命的能力；這泉源也使那些度基督生活的人，能暢飲湧向永生的活水。
所以，基督所愛的人，起來吧！你要像鴿子一樣，在那懸崖的岩穴裡，築巢為居；要如同麻雀找到住所後，常常警醒著；你要像斑鳩，把你純愛的幼雛，藏在裡面；你要張開嘴，從救主的泉源內，吸取活水。因為，這就是「由伊甸流出而灌溉樂園的活泉，分為四條支流」，注入虔誠者的心裡，灌溉普世，使大地滋生。
所以，獻身與主的靈魂，你不拘是誰，該以熱切的心情，奔赴這「生命與光明的泉源」，並從心靈的深處全力向祂呼求說：「至高天主無可言喻的榮耀，永光的至潔光輝，祢是使眾人獲得生命的生命，光照一切光明的光明，祢在永恒的光輝中保存著千萬光體，它們從永遠的曙光開始，就在祢神性的寶座前放射著光輝。
肉眼不能看見的、隱藏著的泉源，祢的活水永流不息、無法接近，純潔而甘飴。沒有人能估計祢的深遠，沒有人能測量祢的廣濶和界限，也沒有人能污染祢的純潔。
「那使天主之城歡樂的河流」就是從祢那裡流出，而使我們載歌載舞，向祢歡呼、讚美、感謝，因為經驗給我們作證：「在祢那裡有生命的泉源，藉祢的光明，我們才看見光明。」
