Ex Sermónibus sancti Leónis Magni papæ
(Sermo 1 de Ascensione, 2-4:PL 54, 395-396)
Dies inter resurrectionem ascensionemque Domini
Non ii dies, dilectíssimi, qui inter resurrectiónem Dómini ascensionémque fluxérunt, otióso transiére decúrsu; sed magna in his confirmáta sacraménta, magna sunt reveláta mystéria.
In his metus diræ mortis aufértur, et non solum ánimæ, sed étiam carnis immortálitas declarátur. In his per insufflatiónem Dómini infúnditur Apóstolis ómnibus Spíritus Sanctus; et beáto apóstolo Petro supra céteros, post regni claves, ovílis domínici cura mandátur.
In his diébus, duóbus discípulis tértius in via Dóminus comes iúngitur, et, ad omnem nostræ ambiguitátis calíginem detergéndam, pavéntium ac trepidántium tárditas increpátur. Flammam fídei illumináta corda concípiunt; et quæ erant tépida, reseránte Scriptúras Dómino, efficiúntur ardéntia. In fractióne quoque panis convescéntium aperiúntur obtútus; multo felícius horum óculis patefáctis, quibus natúræ suæ manifestáta est glorificátio quam illórum géneris nostri príncipum, quibus prævaricatiónis suæ est ingésta confúsio.
Per omne ergo hoc tempus, dilectíssimi, quod inter resurrectiónem Dómini et ascensiónem eius exáctum est, hoc providéntia Dei curávit, hoc dócuit, hoc suórum et óculis insinuávit et córdibus, ut Dóminus Iesus Christus vere agnoscerétur resuscitátus, qui vere erat natus et passus et mórtuus.
Unde beatíssimi Apóstoli omnésque discípuli, qui et de éxitu crucis fúerant trépidi, et de fide resurrectiónis ambígui, ita sunt veritáte perspícua roboráti, ut, Dómino in cælórum eúnte sublímia, non solum nulla afficeréntur tristítia, sed étiam magno gáudio repleréntur.
Et revéra magna et ineffábilis erat causa gaudéndi, cum, in conspéctu sanctæ multitúdinis, super ómnium creaturárum cæléstium dignitátem humáni géneris natúra conscénderet, supergressúra angélicos órdines, et ultra archangelórum altitúdines elevánda, nec ullis sublimitátibus modum suæ provectiónis habitúra, nisi, ætérni Patris recépta conséssu, illíus glóriæ sociarétur in throno, cuius natúræ copulabátur in Fílio.

주님의 부활과 승천 사이의 날들
사랑하는 나의 형제들이여, 주님의 부활과 승천 사이의 날들은 헛되이 지나가지 않았습니다. 이 기간에 위대한 신비들이 제정되었고 또 위대한 진리들이 계시되었습니다. 이 동안 무서운 죽음에 대한 공포가 사라지고 영혼은 물론 육신의 불사 불멸이 선포되었습니다. 이 기간 동안 주님은 모든 사도들에게 숨을 불어넣으시고 성령으로 가득 차게 하셨고 다른 사도들보다 특히 성 베드로에게는 천국의 열쇠를 맡기시어 주님의 양 무리를 보호할 것을 명하셨습니다.
주님은 이 기간 동안 길을 가는 두 제자들과 동행하시어, 우리 마음에서 의혹의 어둠을 몰아내시기 위해서 겁을 먹고 두려움에 차 있는 그들의 우둔함을 꾸짖으셨습니다. 밝아진 그들의 마음은 신앙의 불꽃을 받아 주님이 성서를 해석해 주시자 차가웠던 그들의 마음이 뜨거워졌습니다. 그리고 예수께서 빵을 떼어 나누어 주실 때 식탁에 앉아 있던 그들의 눈이 선악과를 따먹은 아담과 하와의 눈처럼 열렸습니다. 그러나 그리스도 안에 나타난 우리 인성의 영광을 본 제자들의 눈은 범죄하여 수치감에 차 있던 그 조상들의 눈보다 얼마나 더 행복했겠습니까?
나의 사랑하는 형제들이여, 주님의 부활과 승천 사이의 이 기간 동안 주님은 당신의 섭리로 한 가지 목적을 가지고 계셨고 한 가지 교훈을 가르치셨으며 제자들의 눈과 마음 앞에다 생각해 보아야 할 한 가지 점을 놓으셨습니다. 즉, 참으로 탄생하시고 수난하시고 죽으신 그리스도께서 또한 참으로 부활하셨다는 것을 깨달아야 한다는 점입니다.
복된 사도들과 모든 제자들은 주님께서 십자가 위에서 죽으심으로써 공포에 가득 찼었고 또 그분의 부활에 대한 그들의 신앙은 망설이는 바였으나, 이제 그들은 그 사실을 본 후에 큰 힘을 얻어 주님께서 하늘에 오르실 때 슬픔을 느끼기는커녕 큰 기쁨을 체험했습니다.
그들은 참으로 기뻐 용약할 위대하고도 신비로운 이유를 갖고 있었습니다. 그때에 우리 인성은 거대한 무리들이 모여 있는 가운데 천상의 모든 피조물이 지니는 위엄을 넘어 고양되고, 천사의 등급을 넘어서 대천사들의 높은 지위에로 들어올려져, 영원하신 아버지의 허락을 받아 아드님 안에서 아버지의 본성과 일치되고 아버지의 영광스런 옥좌를 함께 하였습니다.

The days between the resurrection and the ascension of the Lord
Dearly beloved, those days which intervened between the Lord’s Resurrection and Ascension did not pass by in uneventful leisure, but great mysteries were ratified in them and deep truths were revealed.
In those days the fear of death was removed with all its terrors, and the immortality not only of the soul but also of the flesh was established. In those days the Holy Ghost is poured upon all the Apostles through the Lord’s breathing upon them, and to the blessed Apostle Peter, set above the rest, the keys of the kingdom are entrusted and the care of the Lord’s flock.
It was during that time that the Lord joined the two disciples as a companion on the way, and, to sweep away all the clouds of our uncertainty, reproached them for the slowness of their timid and trembling hearts. Their enlightened hearts catch the flame of faith, and lukewarm as they have been, they are made to burn while the Lord unfolds the Scriptures. In the breaking of bread also their eyes are opened as they eat with him. How much more blessed is that opening of their eyes, to the glorification of their nature, than the time when our first parents’ eyes were opened to the disastrous consequences of their transgression.
Dearly beloved, through all this time which elapsed between the Lord’s Resurrection and Ascension, God’s Providence had this in view, to teach his own people and impress upon their eyes and their hearts that the Lord Jesus Christ had risen, risen as truly as he had been born and had suffered and died.
Hence the most blessed Apostles and all the disciples, who had been both bewildered at his death on the cross and backward in believing his Resurrection, were so strengthened by the clearness of the truth that when the Lord entered the heights of heaven, not only were they affected with no sadness, but were even filled with great joy.
Truly it was great and unspeakable, that cause of their joy, when in the sight of the holy multitude the Nature of mankind went up: up above the dignity of all heavenly creatures, to pass above the angels’ ranks and to rise beyond the archangels’ heights, and to have its uplifting limited by no elevation until, received to sit with the Eternal Father, it should be associated on the throne with his glory, to whose Nature it was united in the Son.

耶穌復活與升天之間的日子
親愛的諸位，在耶穌復活和升天之間的日子，並非白白溜過，反之，在這些日子裡，許多偉大的奧秘得到證實，許多偉大的真理得以揭示。
在這期間，對死亡之恐怖的怕懼已被消除，不僅靈魂的「不死性」，而且肉體的不死性，也得以揭示。在這期間，主向宗徒們噓氣，而使他們充滿天主聖神；真福宗徒伯多祿，在接受了天國的鑰匙後，超越其他宗徒，而受委派管理主的羊羣。

親愛的諸位，在耶穌復活和祂升天之間的這一段時間，天主上智所關心的，祂所教訓我們的，祂使祂的朋友們的眼睛和心靈所領悟的有一項真理，就是承認耶穌基督確實復活了；祂曾確實誕生，又確實受苦受難而死去。
宗徒們和所有門徒，日前因主在十字架上的死亡而震驚，並對主復活的信仰猶豫不信；現在由於顯明的真理而得以堅強，即便吾主升上高天，不但毫不憂愁，反而滿心歡樂。
這實在是使他們歡樂的偉大而不可言喻的動機：因為人性在諸聖面前、接受了超越一切天上受造物的尊位；人性凌駕各級天使並高升而勝過總領天使；最崇高的受造物也不能衡量祂受高舉的程度；因為天主的性體、在聖子身上與人性合而為一，人性便與聖父同享光榮，並將在永遠之父那裡為王。
