1 Now when Jesus had finished these sayings, he went away from Galilee and entered the region of Judea beyond the Jordan;

1 예수님께서는 이 말씀들을 마치시고 갈릴래아를 떠나, 요르단 건너편 유다 지방으로 가셨다.

2 and large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.

2 많은 군중이 그분을 따라오자 그분께서는 그곳에서도 그들을 고쳐 주셨다.

3 And Pharisees came up to him and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful to divorce one’s wife for any cause?”

3 그런데 바리사이들이 다가와 예수님을 시험하려고, “무엇이든지 이유만 있으면 남편이 아내를 버려도 됩니까?” 하고 물었다.

4 He answered, “Have you not read that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female,

4 그러자 예수님께서 이렇게 대답하셨다. “너희는 읽어 보지 않았느냐? 창조주께서 처음부터 ‘그들을 남자와 여자로 만드시고’ 나서,

5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one’?

5 ‘그러므로 남자는 아버지와 어머니를 떠나 아내와 결합하여, 둘이 한 몸이 될 것이다.’ 하고 이르셨다.

6 So they are no longer two but one. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.”

6 따라서 그들은 이제 둘이 아니라 한 몸이다. 그러므로 하느님께서 맺어 주신 것을 사람이 갈라놓아서는 안 된다.”

7 They said to him, “Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?”

7 그들이 다시 예수님께, “그렇다면 어찌하여 모세는 ‘이혼장을 써 주고 아내를 버려라.’ 하고 명령하였습니까?” 하자,

8 He said to them, “For your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.

8 예수님께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “모세는 너희의 마음이 완고하기 때문에 너희가 아내를 버리는 것을 허락하였다. 그러나 처음부터 그렇게 된 것은 아니다.

9 And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for unchastity, and marries another, commits adultery; and he who marries a divorced woman, commits adultery.”

9 내가 너희에게 말한다. 불륜을 저지른 경우 외에 아내를 버리고 다른 여자와 혼인하는 자는 간음하는 것이다.”

10 The disciples said to him, “If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is not expedient to marry.”

10 그러자 제자들이 예수님께, “아내에 대한 남편의 처지가 그러하다면 혼인하지 않는 것이 좋겠습니다.” 하고 말하였다.

11 But he said to them, “Not all men can receive this precept, but only those to whom it is given.

11 예수님께서 그들에게 이르셨다. “모든 사람이 이 말을 받아들일 수 있는 것은 아니다. 허락된 이들만 받아들일 수 있다.

12 For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it.”

12 사실 모태에서부터 고자로 태어난 이들도 있고, 사람들 손에 고자가 된 이들도 있으며, 하늘 나라 때문에 스스로 고자가 된 이들도 있다. 받아들일 수 있는 사람은 받아들여라.”

13 Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people;

13 그때에 사람들이 어린이들을 예수님께 데리고 와서 그들에게 손을 얹고 기도해 달라고 하였다. 그러자 제자들이 사람들을 꾸짖었다.

14 but Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

14 그러나 예수님께서는 이렇게 이르셨다. “어린이들을 그냥 놓아두어라. 나에게 오는 것을 막지 마라. 사실 하늘 나라는 이 어린이들과 같은 사람들의 것이다.”

15 And he laid his hands on them and went away.

15 그리고 그들에게 손을 얹어 주시고 나서 그곳을 떠나셨다.

16 And behold, one came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do, to have eternal life?”

16 그런데 어떤 사람이 예수님께 다가와, “스승님, 제가 영원한 생명을 얻으려면 무슨 선한 일을 해야 합니까?” 하고 물었다.

17 And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.”

17 그러자 예수님께서 말씀하셨다. “어찌하여 나에게 선한 일을 묻느냐? 선하신 분은 한 분뿐이시다. 네가 생명에 들어가려면 계명들을 지켜라.”

18 He said to him, “Which?” And Jesus said, “You shall not kill, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness,

18 그가 “어떤 것들입니까?” 하고 또 묻자 예수님께서 이르셨다. “‘살인해서는 안 된다. 간음해서는 안 된다. 도둑질해서는 안 된다. 거짓 증언을 해서는 안 된다.

19 Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

19 아버지와 어머니를 공경하여라.’ 그리고 ‘네 이웃을 너 자신처럼 사랑해야 한다.’는 것이다.”

20 The young man said to him, “All these I have observed; what do I still lack?”

20 그 젊은이가 “그런 것들은 제가 다 지켜 왔습니다. 아직도 무엇이 부족합니까?” 하고 다시 묻자,

21 Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”

21 예수님께서 그에게 이르셨다. “네가 완전한 사람이 되려거든, 가서 너의 재산을 팔아 가난한 이들에게 주어라. 그러면 네가 하늘에서 보물을 차지하게 될 것이다. 그리고 와서 나를 따라라.”

22 When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions.

22 그러나 그 젊은이는 이 말씀을 듣고 슬퍼하며 떠나갔다. 그가 많은 재물을 가지고 있었기 때문이다.

23 And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

23 예수님께서 제자들에게 말씀하셨다. “내가 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 부자는 하늘 나라에 들어가기가 어려울 것이다.

24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

24 내가 다시 너희에게 말한다. 부자가 하느님 나라에 들어가는 것보다 낙타가 바늘구멍으로 빠져나가는 것이 더 쉽다.”

25 When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”

25 제자들이 이 말씀을 듣고 몹시 놀라서, “그렇다면 누가 구원받을 수 있는가?” 하고 말하였다.

26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

26 예수님께서는 그들을 눈여겨보며 이르셨다. “사람에게는 그것이 불가능하지만 하느님께는 모든 것이 가능하다.”

27 Then Peter said in reply, “Lo, we have left everything and followed you. What then shall we have?”

27 그때에 베드로가 그 말씀을 받아 예수님께 물었다. “보시다시피 저희는 모든 것을 버리고 스승님을 따랐습니다. 그러니 저희는 무엇을 받겠습니까?”

28 Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of man shall sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

28 예수님께서 말씀하셨다. “내가 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 사람의 아들이 영광스러운 자기 옥좌에 앉게 되는 새 세상이 오면, 나를 따른 너희도 열두 옥좌에 앉아 이스라엘의 열두 지파를 심판할 것이다.

29 And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.

29 그리고 내 이름 때문에 집이나 형제나 자매, 아버지나 어머니, 자녀나 토지를 버린 사람은 모두 백 배로 받을 것이고 영원한 생명도 받을 것이다.

30 But many that are first will be last, and the last first.

30 그런데 첫째가 꼴찌 되고 꼴찌가 첫째 되는 이들이 많을 것이다.”
