1 And when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Beth′phage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,

1 그들이 예루살렘에 가까이 이르러 올리브산 벳파게에 다다랐을 때, 예수님께서 제자 둘을 보내며

2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find an ass tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me.

2 말씀하셨다. “너희 맞은쪽 동네로 가거라. 매여 있는 암나귀와 그 곁의 어린 나귀를 곧바로 보게 될 것이다. 그것들을 풀어 나에게 끌고 오너라.

3 If any one says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and he will send them immediately.”

3 누가 너희에게 무어라고 하거든, ‘주님께서 필요하시답니다.’ 하고 대답하여라. 그러면 그것들을 곧 보내 줄 것이다.”

4 This took place to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet, saying,

4 예언자를 통하여 하신 말씀이 이루어지려고 이 일이 일어난 것이다.

5 “Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on an ass, and on a colt, the foal of an ass.”

5 “딸 시온에게 말하여라. 보라, 너의 임금님이 너에게 오신다. 그분은 겸손하시어 암나귀를, 짐바리 짐승의 새끼, 어린 나귀를 타고 오신다.”

6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them;

6 제자들은 가서 예수님께서 지시하신 대로 하였다.

7 they brought the ass and the colt, and put their garments on them, and he sat thereon.

7 그들은 그렇게 암나귀와 어린 나귀를 끌고 와서 그 위에 겉옷을 펴 놓았다. 예수님께서 그 위에 앉으시자,

8 Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.

8 수많은 군중이 자기들의 겉옷을 길에 깔았다. 또 어떤 이들은 나뭇가지를 꺾어다가 길에 깔았다.

9 And the crowds that went before him and that followed him shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”

9 그리고 앞서가는 군중과 뒤따라가는 군중이 외쳤다. “다윗의 자손께 호산나! 주님의 이름으로 오시는 분은 복되시어라. 지극히 높은 곳에 호산나!”

10 And when he entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?”

10 이렇게 하여 예수님께서 예루살렘에 들어가시니 온 도성이 술렁거리며, “저분이 누구냐?” 하고 물었다.

11 And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth of Galilee.”

11 그러자 군중이 “저분은 갈릴래아 나자렛 출신 예언자 예수님이시오.” 하고 대답하였다.

12 And Jesus entered the temple of God and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons.

12 예수님께서는 성전에 들어가시어, 그곳에서 사고팔고 하는 자들을 모두 쫓아내시고, 환전상들의 탁자와 비둘기 장수들의 의자를 둘러엎으셨다.

13 He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you make it a den of robbers.”

13 그리고 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “‘나의 집은 기도의 집이라 불릴 것이다.’라고 기록되어 있다. 그런데 너희는 이 곳을 ‘강도들의 소굴’로 만드는구나.”

14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them.

14 그때에 성전에서 눈먼 이들과 절름거리는 이들이 다가오자, 예수님께서는 그들을 고쳐 주셨다.

15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant;

15 수석 사제들과 율법 학자들이 예수님께서 일으키신 기적들을 보고, 또 성전에서 “다윗의 자손께 호산나!” 하고 외치는 아이들을 보고 불쾌해하며,

16 and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast brought perfect praise’?”

16 예수님께 “저 아이들이 무어라고 하는지 듣고 있소?” 하였다. 예수님께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “그렇다. ‘당신께서는 아기들과 젖먹이들의 입에서 찬양이 나오게 하셨습니다.’라는 말씀을 너희는 읽어 본 적이 없느냐?”

17 And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there.

17 예수님께서는 그들을 두고 성을 나와 베타니아로 가시어 그곳에서 밤을 지내셨다.

18 In the morning, as he was returning to the city, he was hungry.

18 예수님께서는 새벽에 성안으로 되돌아가실 때에 시장하셨다.

19 And seeing a fig tree by the wayside he went to it, and found nothing on it but leaves only. And he said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” And the fig tree withered at once.

19 마침 길가에 있는 무화과나무 한 그루를 보시고 가까이 가셨다. 그러나 잎사귀밖에는 달리 아무것도 보이지 않았으므로 그 나무를 향하여 말씀하셨다. “이제부터 너는 영원히 열매 맺는 일이 없을 것이다.” 그러자 나무가 즉시 말라 버렸다.

20 When the disciples saw it they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?”

20 제자들이 그것을 보고 놀라서, “어째서 무화과나무가 즉시 말라 버렸습니까?” 하고 물었다.

21 And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and never doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will be done.

21 예수님께서 그들에게 대답하셨다. “내가 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 너희가 믿음을 가지고 의심하지 않으면, 이 무화과나무에 일어난 일을 할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 이 산더러 ‘들려서 저 바다에 빠져라.’ 하여도 그대로 이루어질 것이다.

22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

22 그리고 너희가 기도할 때에 믿고 청하는 것은 무엇이든지 다 받을 것이다.”

23 And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”

23 예수님께서 성전에 가서 가르치고 계실 때, 수석 사제들과 백성의 원로들이 예수님께 다가와 말하였다. “당신은 무슨 권한으로 이런 일을 하는 것이오? 그리고 누가 당신에게 이런 권한을 주었소?”

24 Jesus answered them, “I also will ask you a question; and if you tell me the answer, then I also will tell you by what authority I do these things.

24 그러자 예수님께서 말씀하셨다. “나도 너희에게 한 가지 묻겠다. 너희가 나에게 대답하면, 나도 무슨 권한으로 이런 일을 하는지 너희에게 말해 주겠다.

25 The baptism of John, whence was it? From heaven or from men?” And they argued with one another, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’

25 요한의 세례가 어디에서 온 것이냐? 하늘에서냐, 아니면 사람에게서냐?” 그들은 저희끼리 의논하였다. “‘하늘에서 왔다.’ 하면, ‘어찌하여 그를 믿지 않았느냐?’ 하고 우리에게 말할 것이오.

26 But if we say, ‘From men,’ we are afraid of the multitude; for all hold that John was a prophet.”

26 그렇다고 ‘사람에게서 왔다.’ 하자니 군중이 두렵소. 그들이 모두 요한을 예언자로 여기니 말이오.”

27 So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And he said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

27 그래서 그들이 예수님께 “모르겠소.” 하고 대답하였다. 그러자 예수님께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “나도 무슨 권한으로 이런 일을 하는지 너희에게 말하지 않겠다.”

28 “What do you think? A man had two sons; and he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’

28 “너희는 어떻게 생각하느냐? 어떤 사람에게 아들이 둘 있었는데, 맏아들에게 가서 ‘얘야, 너 오늘 포도밭에 가서 일하여라.’ 하고 일렀다.

29 And he answered, ‘I will not’; but afterward he repented and went.

29 그는 ‘싫습니다.’ 하고 대답하였지만, 나중에 생각을 바꾸어 일하러 갔다.

30 And he went to the second and said the same; and he answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but did not go.

30 아버지는 또 다른 아들에게 가서 같은 말을 하였다. 그는 ‘가겠습니다, 아버지!’ 하고 대답하였지만 가지는 않았다.

31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

31 이 둘 가운데 누가 아버지의 뜻을 실천하였느냐?” 그들이 “맏아들입니다.” 하고 대답하자, 예수님께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “내가 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 세리와 창녀들이 너희보다 먼저 하느님의 나라에 들어간다.

32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the harlots believed him; and even when you saw it, you did not afterward repent and believe him.

32 사실 요한이 너희에게 와서 의로운 길을 가르칠 때, 너희는 그를 믿지 않았지만 세리와 창녀들은 그를 믿었다. 너희는 그것을 보고도 생각을 바꾸지 않고 끝내 그를 믿지 않았다.”

33 “Hear another parable. There was a householder who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country.

33 “다른 비유를 들어 보아라. 어떤 밭 임자가 ‘포도밭을 일구어 울타리를 둘러치고 포도 확을 파고 탑을 세웠다.’ 그리고 소작인들에게 내주고 멀리 떠났다.

34 When the season of fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, to get his fruit;

34 포도 철이 가까워지자 그는 자기 몫의 소출을 받아 오라고 소작인들에게 종들을 보냈다.

35 and the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another.

35 그런데 소작인들은 그들을 붙잡아 하나는 매질하고 하나는 죽이고 하나는 돌을 던져 죽이기까지 하였다.

36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first; and they did the same to them.

36 주인이 다시 처음보다 더 많은 종을 보냈지만, 소작인들은 그들에게도 같은 짓을 하였다.

37 Afterward he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’

37 주인은 마침내 ‘내 아들이야 존중해 주겠지.’ 하며 그들에게 아들을 보냈다.

38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.’

38 그러나 소작인들은 아들을 보자, ‘저자가 상속자다. 자, 저자를 죽여 버리고 우리가 그의 상속 재산을 차지하자.’ 하고 저희끼리 말하면서,

39 And they took him and cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him.

39 그를 붙잡아 포도밭 밖으로 던져 죽여 버렸다.

40 When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”

40 그러니 포도밭 주인이 와서 그 소작인들을 어떻게 하겠느냐?”

41 They said to him, “He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.”

41 “그렇게 악한 자들은 가차 없이 없애 버리고, 제때에 소출을 바치는 다른 소작인들에게 포도밭을 내줄 것입니다.” 하고 그들이 대답하자,

42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the scriptures: ‘The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?

42 예수님께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “너희는 성경에서 이 말씀을 읽어 본 적이 없느냐? ‘집 짓는 이들이 내버린 돌 그 돌이 모퉁이의 머릿돌이 되었네. 이는 주님께서 이루신 일 우리 눈에 놀랍기만 하네.’

43 Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing the fruits of it.

43 그러므로 내가 너희에게 말한다. 하느님께서는 너희에게서 하느님의 나라를 빼앗아, 그 소출을 내는 민족에게 주실 것이다.

44 And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but when it falls on any one, it will crush him.”

44 그리고 그 돌 위에 떨어지는 자는 부서지고, 그 돌에 맞는 자는 누구나 으스러질 것이다.”

45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he was speaking about them.

45 수석 사제들과 바리사이들은 이 비유들을 듣고서 자기들을 두고 하신 말씀인 것을 알아차리고,

46 But when they tried to arrest him, they feared the multitudes, because they held him to be a prophet.

46 그분을 붙잡으려고 하였으나 군중이 두려웠다. 군중이 예수님을 예언자로 여겼기 때문이다.
