1 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.

1 “하늘 나라는 자기 포도밭에서 일할 일꾼들을 사려고 이른 아침에 집을 나선 밭 임자와 같다.

2 After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

2 그는 일꾼들과 하루 한 데나리온으로 합의하고 그들을 자기 포도밭으로 보냈다.

3 And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the market place;

3 그가 또 아홉 시쯤에 나가 보니 다른 이들이 하는 일 없이 장터에 서 있었다.

4 and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went.

4 그래서 그들에게, ‘당신들도 포도밭으로 가시오. 정당한 삯을 주겠소.’ 하고 말하자,

5 Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same.

5 그들이 갔다. 그는 다시 열두 시와 오후 세 시쯤에도 나가서 그와 같이 하였다.

6 And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing; and he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’

6 그리고 오후 다섯 시쯤에도 나가 보니 또 다른 이들이 서 있었다. 그래서 그들에게 ‘당신들은 왜 온종일 하는 일 없이 여기 서 있소?’ 하고 물으니,

7 They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’

7 그들이 ‘아무도 우리를 사지 않았기 때문입니다.’ 하고 대답하였다. 그러자 그는 ‘당신들도 포도밭으로 가시오.’ 하고 말하였다.

8 And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.’

8 저녁때가 되자 포도밭 주인은 자기 관리인에게 말하였다. ‘일꾼들을 불러 맨 나중에 온 이들부터 시작하여 맨 먼저 온 이들에게까지 품삯을 내주시오.’

9 And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius.

9 그리하여 오후 다섯 시쯤부터 일한 이들이 와서 한 데나리온씩 받았다.

10 Now when the first came, they thought they would receive more; but each of them also received a denarius.

10 그래서 맨 먼저 온 이들은 차례가 되자 자기들은 더 받으려니 생각하였는데, 그들도 한 데나리온씩만 받았다.

11 And on receiving it they grumbled at the householder,

11 그것을 받아 들고 그들은 밭 임자에게 투덜거리면서,

12 saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’

12 ‘맨 나중에 온 저자들은 한 시간만 일했는데도, 뙤약볕 아래에서 온종일 고생한 우리와 똑같이 대우하시는군요.’ 하고 말하였다.

13 But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius?

13 그러자 그는 그들 가운데 한 사람에게 말하였다. ‘친구여, 내가 당신에게 불의를 저지르는 것이 아니오. 당신은 나와 한 데나리온으로 합의하지 않았소?

14 Take what belongs to you, and go; I choose to give to this last as I give to you.

14 당신 품삯이나 받아서 돌아가시오. 나는 맨 나중에 온 이 사람에게도 당신에게처럼 품삯을 주고 싶소.

15 Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?’

15 내 것을 가지고 내가 하고 싶은 대로 할 수 없다는 말이오? 아니면, 내가 후하다고 해서 시기하는 것이오?’

16 So the last will be first, and the first last.”

16 이처럼 꼴찌가 첫째 되고 첫째가 꼴찌 될 것이다.”

17 And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them,

17 예수님께서 예루살렘으로 올라가실 때, 열두 제자를 따로 데리고 길을 가시면서 그들에게 이르셨다.

18 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death,

18 “보다시피 우리는 예루살렘으로 올라가고 있다. 거기에서 사람의 아들은 수석 사제들과 율법 학자들에게 넘겨질 것이다. 그러면 그들은 사람의 아들에게 사형을 선고하고,

19 and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.”

19 그를 다른 민족 사람들에게 넘겨 조롱하고 채찍질하고 나서 십자가에 못 박게 할 것이다. 그러나 사람의 아들은 사흗날에 되살아날 것이다.”

20 Then the mother of the sons of Zeb′edee came up to him, with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something.

20 그때에 제베대오의 두 아들의 어머니가 그 아들들과 함께 예수님께 다가와 엎드려 절하고 무엇인가 청하였다.

21 And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Command that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom.”

21 예수님께서 그 부인에게 “무엇을 원하느냐?” 하고 물으시자, 그 부인이 “스승님의 나라에서 저의 이 두 아들이 하나는 스승님의 오른쪽에, 하나는 왼쪽에 앉을 것이라고 말씀해 주십시오.” 하고 말하였다.

22 But Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.”

22 예수님께서 “너희는 너희가 무엇을 청하는지 알지도 못한다. 내가 마시려는 잔을 너희가 마실 수 있느냐?” 하고 물으셨다. 그들이 “할 수 있습니다.” 하고 대답하자,

23 He said to them, “You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.”

23 예수님께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “너희는 내 잔을 마실 것이다. 그러나 내 오른쪽과 왼쪽에 앉는 것은 내가 허락할 일이 아니라, 내 아버지께서 정하신 이들에게 돌아가는 것이다.”

24 And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers.

24 다른 열 제자가 이 말을 듣고 그 두 형제를 불쾌하게 여겼다.

25 But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.

25 예수님께서는 그들을 가까이 불러 이르셨다. “너희도 알다시피 다른 민족들의 통치자들은 백성 위에 군림하고, 고관들은 백성에게 세도를 부린다.

26 It shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant,

26 그러나 너희는 그래서는 안 된다. 너희 가운데에서 높은 사람이 되려는 이는 너희를 섬기는 사람이 되어야 한다.

27 and whoever would be first among you must be your slave;

27 또한 너희 가운데에서 첫째가 되려는 이는 너희의 종이 되어야 한다.

28 even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

28 사람의 아들도 섬김을 받으러 온 것이 아니라 섬기러 왔고, 또 많은 이들의 몸값으로 자기 목숨을 바치러 왔다.”

29 And as they went out of Jericho, a great crowd followed him.

29 그들이 예리코를 떠날 때에 많은 군중이 예수님을 따랐다.

30 And behold, two blind men sitting by the roadside, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”

30 그런데 눈먼 사람 둘이 길가에 앉아 있다가 예수님께서 지나가신다는 말을 듣고, “다윗의 자손이신 주님, 저희에게 자비를 베풀어 주십시오.” 하고 외쳤다.

31 The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent; but they cried out the more, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”

31 군중이 그들에게 잠자코 있으라고 꾸짖었지만, 그들은 더욱 큰 소리로 “주님, 다윗의 자손이시여, 저희에게 자비를 베풀어 주십시오.” 하고 외쳤다.

32 And Jesus stopped and called them, saying, “What do you want me to do for you?”

32 예수님께서 걸음을 멈추시고 그들을 부르신 다음, “내가 너희에게 무엇을 해 주기를 바라느냐?” 하고 물으셨다.

33 They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.”

33 그들이 “주님, 저희 눈을 뜨게 해 주십시오.” 하고 대답하였다.

34 And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they received their sight and followed him.

34 예수님께서 가엾은 마음이 들어 그들의 눈에 손을 대시자, 그들이 곧 다시 보게 되었다. 그리고 그들은 예수님을 따랐다.
