1 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain apart.

1 엿새 뒤에 예수님께서 베드로와 야고보와 그의 동생 요한만 따로 데리고 높은 산에 오르셨다.

2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light.

2 그리고 그들 앞에서 모습이 변하셨는데, 그분의 얼굴은 해처럼 빛나고 그분의 옷은 빛처럼 하얘졌다.

3 And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Eli′jah, talking with him.

3 그때에 모세와 엘리야가 그들 앞에 나타나 예수님과 이야기를 나누었다.

4 And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is well that we are here; if you wish, I will make three booths here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Eli′jah.”

4 그러자 베드로가 나서서 예수님께 말하였다. “주님, 저희가 여기에서 지내면 좋겠습니다. 원하시면 제가 초막 셋을 지어 하나는 주님께, 하나는 모세께, 또 하나는 엘리야께 드리겠습니다.”

5 He was still speaking, when lo, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”

5 베드로가 말을 채 끝내기도 전에 빛나는 구름이 그들을 덮었다. 그리고 그 구름 속에서, “이는 내가 사랑하는 아들, 내 마음에 드는 아들이니 너희는 그의 말을 들어라.” 하는 소리가 났다.

6 When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces, and were filled with awe.

6 이 소리를 들은 제자들은 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드린 채 몹시 두려워하였다.

7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.”

7 예수님께서 다가오시어 그들에게 손을 대시며, “일어나라. 그리고 두려워하지 마라.” 하고 이르셨다.

8 And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.

8 그들이 눈을 들어 보니 예수님 외에는 아무도 보이지 않았다.

9 And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of man is raised from the dead.”

9 그들이 산에서 내려올 때에 예수님께서는 그들에게, “사람의 아들이 죽은 이들 가운데에서 되살아날 때까지, 지금 본 것을 아무에게도 말하지 마라.” 하고 명령하셨다.

10 And the disciples asked him, “Then why do the scribes say that first Eli′jah must come?”

10 제자들이 예수님께, “율법 학자들은 어찌하여 엘리야가 먼저 와야 한다고 말합니까?” 하고 물었다.

11 He replied, “Eli′jah does come, and he is to restore all things;

11 그러자 예수님께서 대답하셨다. “과연 엘리야가 와서 모든 것을 바로잡을 것이다.

12 but I tell you that Eli′jah has already come, and they did not know him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of man will suffer at their hands.”

12 내가 너희에게 말한다. 엘리야는 이미 왔지만, 사람들은 그를 알아보지 못하고 제멋대로 다루었다. 그처럼 사람의 아들도 그들에게 고난을 받을 것이다.”

13 Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.

13 그제야 제자들은 그것이 세례자 요한을 두고 하신 말씀인 줄을 깨달았다.

14 And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and kneeling before him said,

14 그들이 군중에게 가자 어떤 사람이 예수님께 다가와 무릎을 꿇고

15 “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and he suffers terribly; for often he falls into the fire, and often into the water.

15 말하였다. “주님, 제 아들에게 자비를 베풀어 주십시오. 간질병에 걸려 몹시 고생하고 있습니다. 자주 불 속으로 떨어지기도 하고 또 자주 물속으로 떨어지기도 합니다.

16 And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him.”

16 그래서 주님의 제자들에게 데려가 보았지만 그들은 고치지 못하였습니다.”

17 And Jesus answered, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.”

17 그러자 예수님께서 “아, 믿음이 없고 비뚤어진 세대야! 내가 언제까지 너희와 함께 있어야 하느냐? 내가 언제까지 너희를 참아 주어야 한다는 말이냐? 아이를 이리 데려오너라.” 하고 이르셨다.

18 And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured instantly.

18 그런 다음 예수님께서 호통을 치시자 아이에게서 마귀가 나갔다. 바로 그 시간에 아이가 나았다.

19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”

19 그때에 제자들이 따로 예수님께 다가와, “어찌하여 저희는 그 마귀를 쫓아내지 못하였습니까?” 하고 물었다.

20 He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from hence to yonder place,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.”[

20 예수님께서 대답하셨다. “너희의 믿음이 약한 탓이다. 내가 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 너희가 겨자씨 한 알만 한 믿음이라도 있으면, 이 산더러 ‘여기서 저기로 옮겨 가라.’ 하더라도 그대로 옮겨 갈 것이다. 너희가 못할 일은 하나도 없을 것이다.”

(21) “But this kind never comes out except by prayer and fasting”

(21) 그런 것은 기도와 단식이 아니면 나가지 않는다.

22  As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of man is to be delivered into the hands of men,

22 그들이 갈릴래아에 모여 있을 때에 예수님께서 제자들에게 이르셨다. “사람의 아들은 사람들의 손에 넘겨져

23 and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.” And they were greatly distressed.

23 그들 손에 죽을 것이다. 그러나 사흗날에 되살아날 것이다.” 그러자 그들은 몹시 슬퍼하였다.

24 When they came to Caper′na-um, the collectors of the half-shekel tax went up to Peter and said, “Does not your teacher pay the tax?”

24 그들이 카파르나움으로 갔을 때, 성전 세를 거두는 이들이 베드로에게 다가와, “여러분의 스승님은 성전 세를 내지 않으십니까?” 하고 물었다.

25 He said, “Yes.” And when he came home, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tribute? From their sons or from others?”

25 베드로가 “내십니다.” 하고는 집에 들어갔더니 예수님께서 먼저, “시몬아, 너는 어떻게 생각하느냐? 세상 임금들이 누구에게서 관세나 세금을 거두느냐? 자기 자녀들에게서냐, 아니면 남들에게서냐?” 하고 물으셨다.

26 And when he said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free.

26 베드로가 “남들에게서입니다.” 하고 대답하자 예수님께서 이르셨다. “그렇다면 자녀들은 면제받는 것이다.

27 However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook, and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel; take that and give it to them for me and for yourself.”

27 그러나 우리가 그들의 비위를 건드릴 것은 없으니, 호수에 가서 낚시를 던져 먼저 올라오는 고기를 잡아 입을 열어 보아라. 스타테르 한 닢을 발견할 것이다. 그것을 가져다가 나와 네 몫으로 그들에게 주어라.”
