1 “Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

1 “너희는 사람들에게 보이려고 그들 앞에서 의로운 일을 하지 않도록 조심하여라. 그러지 않으면 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지에게서 상을 받지 못한다.

2 “Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward.

2 그러므로 네가 자선을 베풀 때에는, 위선자들이 사람들에게 칭찬을 받으려고 회당과 거리에서 하듯이, 스스로 나팔을 불지 마라. 내가 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 그들은 자기들이 받을 상을 이미 받았다.

3 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

3 네가 자선을 베풀 때에는 오른손이 하는 일을 왼손이 모르게 하여라.

4 so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

4 그렇게 하여 네 자선을 숨겨 두어라. 그러면 숨은 일도 보시는 네 아버지께서 너에게 갚아 주실 것이다.”

5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward.

5 “너희는 기도할 때에 위선자들처럼 해서는 안 된다. 그들은 사람들에게 드러내 보이려고 회당과 한길 모퉁이에 서서 기도하기를 좋아한다. 내가 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 그들은 자기들이 받을 상을 이미 받았다.

6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

6 너는 기도할 때 골방에 들어가 문을 닫은 다음, 숨어 계신 네 아버지께 기도하여라. 그러면 숨은 일도 보시는 네 아버지께서 너에게 갚아 주실 것이다.

7 “And in praying do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their many words.

7 너희는 기도할 때에 다른 민족 사람들처럼 빈말을 되풀이하지 마라. 그들은 말을 많이 해야 들어 주시는 줄로 생각한다.

8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

8 그러니 그들을 닮지 마라. 너희 아버지께서는 너희가 청하기도 전에 무엇이 필요한지 알고 계신다.”

9 Pray then like this: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

9 “그러므로 너희는 이렇게 기도하여라. ‘하늘에 계신 저희 아버지 아버지의 이름을 거룩히 드러내시며

10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.

10 아버지의 나라가 오게 하시며 아버지의 뜻이 하늘에서와 같이 땅에서도 이루어지게 하소서.

11 Give us this day our daily bread;

11 오늘 저희에게 일용할 양식을 주시고

12 And forgive us our debts, As we also have forgiven our debtors;

12 저희에게 잘못한 이를 저희도 용서하였듯이 저희 잘못을 용서하시고

13 And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.

13 저희를 유혹에 빠지지 않게 하시고 저희를 악에서 구하소서.’

14 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you;

14 너희가 다른 사람들의 허물을 용서하면, 하늘의 너희 아버지께서도 너희를 용서하실 것이다.

15 but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

15 그러나 너희가 다른 사람들을 용서하지 않으면, 아버지께서도 너희의 허물을 용서하지 않으실 것이다.”

16 “And when you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward.

16 “너희는 단식할 때에 위선자들처럼 침통한 표정을 짓지 마라. 그들은 단식한다는 것을 사람들에게 드러내 보이려고 얼굴을 찌푸린다. 내가 진실로 너희에게 말한다. 그들은 자기들이 받을 상을 이미 받았다.

17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,

17 너는 단식할 때 머리에 기름을 바르고 얼굴을 씻어라.

18 that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

18 그리하여 네가 단식한다는 것을 사람들에게 드러내 보이지 말고, 숨어 계신 네 아버지께 보여라. 그러면 숨은 일도 보시는 네 아버지께서 너에게 갚아 주실 것이다.”

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[d] consume and where thieves break in and steal,

19 “너희는 자신을 위하여 보물을 땅에 쌓아 두지 마라. 땅에서는 좀과 녹이 망가뜨리고 도둑들이 뚫고 들어와 훔쳐 간다.

20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust[e] consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal.

20 그러므로 하늘에 보물을 쌓아라. 거기에서는 좀도 녹도 망가뜨리지 못하고, 도둑들이 뚫고 들어오지도 못하며 훔쳐 가지도 못한다.

21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

21 사실 너의 보물이 있는 곳에 너의 마음도 있다.”

22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light;

22 “눈은 몸의 등불이다. 그러므로 네 눈이 맑으면 온몸도 환하고,

23 but if your eye is not sound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!

23 네 눈이 성하지 못하면 온몸도 어두울 것이다. 그러니 네 안에 있는 빛이 어둠이면 그 어둠이 얼마나 짙겠느냐?”

24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

24 “아무도 두 주인을 섬길 수 없다. 한쪽은 미워하고 다른 쪽은 사랑하며, 한쪽은 떠받들고 다른 쪽은 업신여기게 된다. 너희는 하느님과 재물을 함께 섬길 수 없다.”

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

25 “그러므로 내가 너희에게 말한다. 목숨을 부지하려고 무엇을 먹을까, 무엇을 마실까, 또 몸을 보호하려고 무엇을 입을까 걱정하지 마라. 목숨이 음식보다 소중하고 몸이 옷보다 소중하지 않으냐?

26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

26 하늘의 새들을 눈여겨보아라. 그것들은 씨를 뿌리지도 않고 거두지도 않을 뿐만 아니라 곳간에 모아들이지도 않는다. 그러나 하늘의 너희 아버지께서는 그것들을 먹여 주신다. 너희는 그것들보다 더 귀하지 않으냐?

27 And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life?

27 너희 가운데 누가 걱정한다고 해서 자기 수명을 조금이라도 늘릴 수 있느냐?

28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin;

28 그리고 너희는 왜 옷 걱정을 하느냐? 들에 핀 나리꽃들이 어떻게 자라는지 지켜보아라. 그것들은 애쓰지도 않고 길쌈도 하지 않는다.

29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

29 그러나 내가 너희에게 말한다. 솔로몬도 그 온갖 영화 속에서 이 꽃 하나만큼 차려입지 못하였다.

30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O men of little faith?

30 오늘 서 있다가도 내일이면 아궁이에 던져질 들풀까지 하느님께서 이처럼 입히시거든, 너희야 훨씬 더 잘 입히시지 않겠느냐? 이 믿음이 약한 자들아!

31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

31 그러므로 너희는 ‘무엇을 먹을까?’, ‘무엇을 마실까?’, ‘무엇을 차려입을까?’ 하며 걱정하지 마라.

32 For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.

32 이런 것들은 모두 다른 민족들이 애써 찾는 것이다. 하늘의 너희 아버지께서는 이 모든 것이 너희에게 필요함을 아신다.

33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.

33 너희는 먼저 하느님의 나라와 그분의 의로움을 찾아라. 그러면 이 모든 것도 곁들여 받게 될 것이다.

34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day’s own trouble be sufficient for the day.

34 그러므로 내일을 걱정하지 마라. 내일 걱정은 내일이 할 것이다. 그날 고생은 그날로 충분하다.”
