1 “Judge not, that you be not judged.

1 “남을 심판하지 마라. 그래야 너희도 심판받지 않는다.

2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get.

2 너희가 심판하는 그대로 너희도 심판받고, 너희가 되질하는 바로 그 되로 너희도 받을 것이다.

3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

3 너는 어찌하여 형제의 눈 속에 있는 티는 보면서, 네 눈 속에 있는 들보는 깨닫지 못하느냐?

4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye?

4 네 눈 속에는 들보가 있는데, 어떻게 형제에게 ‘가만, 네 눈에서 티를 빼내 주겠다.’ 하고 말할 수 있느냐?

5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

5 위선자야, 먼저 네 눈에서 들보를 빼내어라. 그래야 네가 뚜렷이 보고 형제의 눈에서 티를 빼낼 수 있을 것이다.”

6 “Do not give dogs what is holy; and do not throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under foot and turn to attack you.

6 “거룩한 것을 개들에게 주지 말고, 너희의 진주를 돼지들 앞에 던지지 마라. 그것들이 발로 그것을 짓밟고 돌아서서 너희를 물어뜯을지도 모른다.”

7 “Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

7 “청하여라, 너희에게 주실 것이다. 찾아라, 너희가 얻을 것이다. 문을 두드려라, 너희에게 열릴 것이다.

8 For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

8 누구든지 청하는 이는 받고, 찾는 이는 얻고, 문을 두드리는 이에게는 열릴 것이다.

9 Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?

9 너희 가운데 아들이 빵을 청하는데 돌을 줄 사람이 어디 있겠느냐?

10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent?

10 생선을 청하는데 뱀을 줄 사람이 어디 있겠느냐?

11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

11 너희가 악해도 자녀들에게는 좋은 것을 줄 줄 알거든, 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께서야 당신께 청하는 이들에게 좋은 것을 얼마나 더 많이 주시겠느냐?”

12 So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; for this is the law and the prophets.

12 “그러므로 남이 너희에게 해 주기를 바라는 그대로 너희도 남에게 해 주어라. 이것이 율법과 예언서의 정신이다.”

13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy,[a] that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.

13 “너희는 좁은 문으로 들어가라. 멸망으로 이끄는 문은 넓고 길도 널찍하여 그리로 들어가는 자들이 많다.

14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

14 생명으로 이끄는 문은 얼마나 좁고 또 그 길은 얼마나 비좁은지, 그리로 찾아드는 이들이 적다.”

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

15 “너희는 거짓 예언자들을 조심하여라. 그들은 양의 옷차림을 하고 너희에게 오지만 속은 게걸든 이리들이다.

16 You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles?

16 너희는 그들이 맺은 열매를 보고 그들을 알아볼 수 있다. 가시나무에서 어떻게 포도를 거두어들이고, 엉겅퀴에서 어떻게 무화과를 거두어들이겠느냐?

17 So, every sound tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears evil fruit.

17 이와 같이 좋은 나무는 모두 좋은 열매를 맺고 나쁜 나무는 나쁜 열매를 맺는다.

18 A sound tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.

18 좋은 나무가 나쁜 열매를 맺을 수 없고 나쁜 나무가 좋은 열매를 맺을 수 없다.

19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

19 좋은 열매를 맺지 않는 나무는 모두 잘려 불에 던져진다.

20 Thus you will know them by their fruits.

20 그러므로 너희는 그들이 맺은 열매를 보고 그들을 알아볼 수 있다.”

21 “Not every one who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

21 “나에게 ‘주님, 주님!’ 한다고 모두 하늘 나라에 들어가는 것이 아니다. 하늘에 계신 내 아버지의 뜻을 실행하는 이라야 들어간다.

22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’

22 그날에 많은 사람이 나에게, ‘주님, 주님! 저희가 주님의 이름으로 예언을 하고, 주님의 이름으로 마귀를 쫓아내고, 주님의 이름으로 많은 기적을 일으키지 않았습니까?’ 하고 말할 것이다.

23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.’

23 그때에 나는 그들에게, ‘나는 너희를 도무지 알지 못한다. 내게서 물러들 가라, 불법을 일삼는 자들아!’ 하고 선언할 것이다.”

24 “Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock;

24 “그러므로 나의 이 말을 듣고 실행하는 이는 모두 자기 집을 반석 위에 지은 슬기로운 사람과 같을 것이다.

25 and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

25 비가 내려 강물이 밀려오고 바람이 불어 그 집에 들이쳤지만 무너지지 않았다. 반석 위에 세워졌기 때문이다.

26 And every one who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand;

26 그러나 나의 이 말을 듣고 실행하지 않는 자는 모두 자기 집을 모래 위에 지은 어리석은 사람과 같다.

27 and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it.”

27 비가 내려 강물이 밀려오고 바람이 불어 그 집에 휘몰아치자 무너져 버렸다. 완전히 무너지고 말았다.”

28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching,

28 예수님께서 이 말씀들을 마치시자 군중은 그분의 가르침에 몹시 놀랐다.

29 for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.

29 그분께서 자기들의 율법 학자들과는 달리 권위를 가지고 가르치셨기 때문이다.
